MONDAY, JUNE 1st: MARK YOUR CALENDAR AND COME GOLF!
Framingham Country Club 2009 – can it be better than Framingham Country Club 2008??? If you missed last year, come join us this year on Monday, June 1st for our 11th annual fundraising tournament. We expect another great day of lunch, golf and a superior dinner, prizes and raffles, all in the relaxing atmosphere and challenging course at FCC. If you joined us last year, you know we’re talking about a great day of golf and community! Come join us and support the great work of the Foundation. Kids are asking to be part of our program at Framingham High. We are making a difference, and we need your support. In consideration of the difficult current financial situation Framingham CC has given us some cost concessions that we are passing on to you. This year’s golfer fee has been reduced from $250 to $225.

ALUMNI NEWS
We are especially proud of the mentees who remained in our program through high school graduation and qualified for our $2000 scholarship by continuing their educations at a post-secondary academic institution. This list continues to grow significantly. 73 program alumni are currently attending college. An additional 23 will be graduating from high school in June. 18 have graduated from college and are now in the business world.

OCTOBER MATCH UP: 23 NEW PAIRS! 20 MORE TO BE MATCHED IN MARCH

Our program has grown substantially from the two students matched in 1998. This fall, 23 students were matched. The program currently has 83 active pairs. THIS NUMBER WILL GROW TO OVER 100 (a program record) AFTER OUR MARCH 2009 MATCH-UP. We are currently recruiting volunteer mentors for a fall, 2009 match-up. We invite you, your friends and co-workers to consider joining us then. For more information about how to become a mentor, please contact Lauren Kracoff, Mentoring Program Director at maziedir@gmail.com or visit us at www.mazie.org.

APRIL MENTOR RECOGNITION DINNER SEEKS SPONSORS
Our fifth annual Mentor Recognition Dinner for mentors working with senior mentees will take place at Columbus Hall in Framingham on Monday April 6th, 6-8pm. This special evening for the mentors includes their significant others, along with the senior mentees and their families. We invite you and your business to contribute so that we can honor the three years of support our mentors have given to their mentees. Please contact Lowell Mazie, maziefdn@comcast.net if your business might be interested in supporting our Recognition Dinner.

GOAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS: NOVEMBER 17, 2008
At our November award event, held at Staples Headquarters, 14 mentees received their college research goal award lap top computers, while another 21 earned their 6-month award of a framed certificate and a $50 Barnes & Noble Gift card. The 6-month and one-year goals included: study for the SATs, visit college campuses, interview an astronomy professor to learn about careers in this field, take AP English and earn top grades, raise a math grade from a C to a B, earn a B average in both math and science classes, save a set amount of money for a specific goal and take steps toward a healthier lifestyle. At the March 18, 2009 Award Event, another 21 lap tops will be awarded. Congratulations to our mentees’ hard work and perseverance and their mentors’ thoughtful support.

MENTEES: IN THEIR OWN WORDS
At each Award Event, mentors and mentees fill out anonymous surveys to provide qualitative data about our program. Last November, most students reported that the mentoring relationship has increased their self confidence. Below are typical student comments, in their own words, in answer to the following question:
What have you learned from your relationship with your mentor?
*That I can do anything if I set my mind to it
*I have learned that anything can come true for me as long as I try my best
*I have learned a lot about better opportunities for my future
*I have learned to be more responsible and to try harder
*I have gained responsibility, more independence, and a greater confidence
*I know that there is someone that will help me if and when I need it. I know I’m safe, and I know I have a true friend.
